3 Band Vase, 2022

This sleek, modern design is achieved using a centuries' old Venetian technique known as Incalmo. It is a grafting process that fuses together individual bubbles of hot glass. Incalmo is a difficult technique to master as two glassblowers must each create a bubble the exact same diameter to join together and the complexity of the process increases with the number of layers “stacked” together. Michael adds a step by overlaying a layer of clear glass to make the piece appear seamless. The final effect is stunning and brilliant.
